A Quick Trip ...

On Saturday, Bryan and I had plans to work, take pictures and watch the 'BIG' Game! Those plans didn't quite work out! About 2:30 PM, we received a call from Bryan's Dad, saying that they were broken down on their motorcycle in Big Bend National Park! They needed us to bring a trailer and pick them up! So, we finished up at the Mall/Wal-Mart with the boys from Boys Ranch ... and headed home at 4PM. By the time we finally found a trailer sturdy and big enough for the bike and hooked up lights, we left the house at 5:30PM.

The trailer we brought to take Roy's bike home ...
(this was taken on Sunday in Kerrville)

We finally got to Big Bend around 10:30PM! We headed first to Headquarters to pick up Roy and Mary ... HQ had closed at 6PM, so I am sure they were happy to see us! We then took them down the road to their bike ... only to find out that the bike did not fit in the trailer we had brought! We brought a goat trailer ... and I was thinking it was like a cattle trailer, you can open half of the gate, but then you can also open all of it! Well this trailer would open on one side ... and then open on the other!! So the handle bars on his bike ... were probably about 2 too long on each side!!

Ok, let's think ... It's 11PM, Pitch Black (did I ever mention that I am scared of darkness ... I like to be able to see what's around me), We are 6-7 hours away from anyone ... and we just brought a trailer that doesn't do that job that it needs to!!

We finally decided that it's going to have to go in the back of Bryan's pick-up! We unhook the trailer, and then try to find the best place to load it up! Bryan had to drive his pickup in the ditch, perpendicular to the road ... so that the ramp was not steep! Bryan and Roy were in the front steering the bike; Mary, Jesus and I were in the back pushing as hard as we could! It was crazy, but we got it in! Thank You, Jesus!

... How the Motorcycle rode home!

We then had to tie it down ... using a flashlight and a spotlight! We finally got it tight enough, where it was not going anywhere!! Next tricky part ... getting the now way heavier truck out of the gravely ditch! It was out (Thank You, Jesus again) ... I am pretty sure that there were hand prints of the grille guard from Jesus pushing it out!

We finally left Big Bend National Park around 12AM! At 2AM, we made it to Fort Stockton ... where we turned our clocks back to 1AM! Man, what a waste ... we definitely didn't get to see that hour!! Roy drove until about 3, then Bryan took over! Bryan and I listened to a lot of the 4th Harry Potter book on the way up to Big Bend, so he caught some more of it! I think since you are concentrating on the story line, that it helps keep you awake! Roy took back over around 4:30AM in Junction ... and made the rest of the journey! We arrived in Kerrvile around 5:30AM! Mary put a note of the door that read, "Sleeping, Do Not Disturb"; I took the phone off the hook, and we all went to sleep!!

A Side Note: Bryan and I talked about taking my car because it has a trailer hitch, it's 4x4, I would also be able to help with the driving, and Gas is $2 compared to diesel being $3.40! I was pushing for it ... but I am so glad that in the end, we decided to take the pickup!

The good news of this story is that we got to see Bryan's family one week earlier than we thought! With Bryan student teaching and hunting trips with the boys ranch, we have not been anywhere for the past 2 months!

Emery had lots of smiles and giggles for her Aunt Susan!!

Saying "Goodbye'' ...It's was nice to say, "See you NEXT Weekend!!"

This is the story of our crazy life ...But we love it!!
